After exploring the Olympic Peninsula, Kendall and I headed back into the Hoh Rainforest towards our campsite.  The road was winding around the Hoh River as we drove East, further into the forest.  As we came into a clearing, we could see the river snaking through the valley with the rainforest on both sides.  Then we saw a huge herd of elk crossing the Hoh River, and straight for us.  I pulled over and jumped out.  I have never been so close to a herd of wild elk before.  They were so majestic as they slowly crossed the river, some playing in the water, some eating on the other side.It was a very awesome experience to be allowed into their life, their world, even if it was only for a few minutes.

Next Up…  Heading towards the Cascade Mountain Range
