Ok, let me start with a few words about this endeavor. I am completely new to the idea of authoring a blog, or as you will hear it called from now on, a digital subscription. I am also completely new to the notion of hitting the road and traveling without holding a full-time job. Is it a little uncomfortable, the notion of leaving everything I know? You bet. But I realized something in the last several years. Something I had not stopped to think about before. I devoted my life to my chosen profession of Law Enforcement. I made a lot of sacrifices in order to be better at my job. I worked long nights with the vast majority of my 10 year career on Midnight Shift, working almost every weekend and holiday. I have given up countless hours of family time and time traveling and discovering more about myself. Then there is the time I lost due to injuries I sustained on the job. I won’t get too detailed about all that in this post (you can read more about that story in the About Me section) but I can tell you that it has been a very long road for me over the last 4 years. I only mention that because, I have learned a very valuable lesson about myself.
I have learned that while having a career that you enjoy is definitely important, it really cannot be everything. Unfortunately, when we die, we will not be rewarded for the hours we tirelessly put in at work. When we put work first, we overlook the simple things in life that can be just as important. I can say I have had some great vacations while I was working, but those were few and far between. The majority of my time as a Police Officer, I worked extremely hard and gave up the holidays in order to work or decided to go work a special detail on my weekend to make some extra money. I didn’t think anything of it at the time. I simply put work first in my life. I now know what I missed. It doesn’t seem like much at the time, a day here and there, but they do add up and time passes much faster than we would like.
So here I am, gearing up for the next chapter in my life. A chapter that I had promised myself years ago I would eventually get to. Now it is time. It’s time to begin a journey that will push me out of my comfort zone. A journey that will make up for all of the other journeys I have missed out on or deliberately passed up in order to further my career. I have a new outlook on life and I fully plan on living each day to the fullest. My hope with this blog is to not only share this amazing journey with others, but more importantly, to save all of the memories I make. I want to record all of the little things I learn, the big adventures and the journey itself. I will be posting videos, video compilations I make, pictures, gear posts, food reviews, campsite walk through, National Park reviews, stories, memories and whatever else comes to mind along the way.
Make sure you click the “Follow” button on this page to get the latest on my crazy adventure. Also please send me a message or a post a comment if you have some good insight for me on a location or a cool hike or restaurant or anything! I look forward to hearing from you!
It begins soon!
